LO5.1 Be Able to Edit Cinematic Quality Footage

Image
Throughout the first couple of scenes the lighting is very bright and eye catching and the blacks are a lot more visible compared to the other scenes when we see the monster. This did not feel right because it did not capture the horror vibe so to do this I color graded some of the more brighter scenes. I used the same settings when color grading the scenes which were decreasing the highlights and the darker tones so that the blacks are a lot darker and less visible which meant that the lighter color's popped more on screen. I also toned down the exposure slightly to make sure the brighter color's arrest too bright and don't wash out the colours. Some of the scenes after editing them were still quite choppy and did not feel right for example there would be noticeable gaps between people talking and sometimes you could hear people talking in the back or the camera man saying " 3, 2, 1, go" . To resolve this all I had to do was cut down the clips to right point whic...

LO5.2 Be Able to Edit Cinematic Quality Footage

https://youtu.be/ETFnaiq8VFg In order to make sure that this film looks and feels as much like a horror as possible needed to make sure the post production editing techniques were on par with what we wanted the film to feel like. First of all I had to rearrange all of the clips together in order to make it all smooth and link together. Then what I had to do was trim the clips down to make the clips and the dialogue flow better. Because our film is a horror I wanted it to have a dark and gritty vibe. In the first few scenes we shot in a very lit room whereas the other scenes with the monster were shot in low light with minimum light. Because the two were so different I needed to go back and color grade the first few scenes. In order to achieve a horror vibe I firstly toned down the exposure slightly to make the whites less brighter and then fully turned down the highlights and then made the shot a little bit colder.  As well as that in one of the main scenes where Ben dies was shot ...

LO3.1 and 2 Be Able to Plan the Recording for a Cinematic Quality Scene

To create the right atmosphere and tone for our film we will need to choose the ideal camera settings to fit the film, to do this we'll use a darker theme, to accomplish this we need a high aperture to let in less light and a lower ISO to keep the digital noise down and help refine the colour's and contrasts. However some shots need a low aperture, this is due to the limited access to equipment, for example, in one shot we need it dark with no artificial light. The problem is it becomes too dark to see what's meant to be shown, to fix this a low aperture is needed.  In shots with the creature in the back we need to use the camera settings to adjust the depth of field, this  keeps focus on the desired character and lets the creature go almost unnoticed, throwing the audience off when they think they could have seen something not right. Towards the end a shift in depth of field will be be need as  the focus will shift from a character to the creature as he becomes aware of ...
